Structural Mechanics chair

The chair provides training of bachelors and specialists at all departments of the university. It trains specialists and masters in the speciality of “Civil and industrial engineering”. The structural mechanics chair was founded in 1930. The head of the chair is Associated Member of the Pedagogical Sciences Academy of Ukraine, prof. Bazhenov V.A.
In 1961 scientific research laboratory of thin wall, space structures problems  was founded in the chair. In 1991 Scientific-Research Institute on Structural Mechanics ( SRISM) was founded on its base.
Scientific-researches of the chair and SRISM are carried out in fundamental and research investigations in the brunch of theory of calculations on strength, stability and vibration of complex space structures taking into consideration the geometrical and physical and non linear character of deformation, real properties of materials under strength, temperature, electromagnetic and other static and dynamic influences. Creation on the above base computer systems of researches in the field of building mechanics and sets of applied programs having  problem and object orientation.
Instructors and scientific workers of the chair defended 21 theses for a Doctor’s degree  and 182   theses for a candidate’s degree. Textbook “Building mechanics. Computer course “ ( authors : Bazhenov V.A., Granat S.Ya., Shishov O.V.) was published in 2000.
In 1991 the group of the chair teaching staff including Bazhenov V.A., Gotsuliak E.O.,Guliayev O.I., Guliar O.I., Dehteruk T.V., Isahanov G.V., Kislooky V.M., Saharov O.S. was awarded the State prize of Ukraine in science and engineering for the research ‘Theory and methods of mathematic modeling  and numerical analyses of the deformation process of complex space structures”. The head of the chair  Prof. Bazhenov V.A. among other authors was awarded the title of the laureate of the State prize of Ukraine of 2003.
